Hotels, its history and evolution

Hotels according to many people is a new term, but the fact of the matter is, it is as old as civilisation. The earliest hotels in dehradun were perhaps built in ancient Rome and were these eateries where the people gathered to have a gala time. These eateries were also places where the gentry gathered to sleep in night and spend few resting days. These hotels were known as ‘thermopolis’. These thermopolis soon evolved with time and started having all the facilities that a normal house should be having. These hotels soon developed into these big inns. 

The concept of hotels as we know perhaps first developed in France. The hotels in France developed somewhere around the early 19th century. These hotels were more organised and the meals and the accommodation provided in these resting houses were better than those provided by the rest houses in the earlier times.

 From France, this concept of hotels spread to rest of the world such as U.S.A, Britain, Germany etc. Hotels and accommodation houses have also become popular in countries like India. In India, several hotels and guest houses have opened in every nook and corner. Right now, one can find many Dehradun hotels, Amritsar, Bhatinda etc to big  cities like  Kolkata, Chennai, etc.
